FIME lays claim to largest network of EMVCo accredited labs

April 28, 2017

FIME has that, with the addition of four new accreditations, six of its laboratories around the world are approved by EMVCo to perform Level 1 tests on payment terminals and mobile point-of-sale devices according to EMV Type Approval — Contactless Terminal Level 1 v. 2.6b.

FIME laboratories in Canada, Japan, Korea and the U.S. join the company's laboratories in France and Taiwan to form largest global network of EMVCo accredited test centers, the company said in a press release.

The six facilities are accredited to perform Level 1 proximity coupling device analog and digital testing as part of the formal approval process for contactless terminal and mPOS manufacturers' products. This process confirms that the communication between the terminal and a contactless card of NFC-enabled smartphone is in line with EMVCo requirements.

"In a rapidly evolving market where contactless adoption is growing and mPOS technology is developing, hardware manufacturers need to develop and launch products as quickly and efficiently as possible," said Vincent Poty, vice president of test and certification at FIME. "We have supported customers with these testing services for many years from our European and Asian operations, and this expansion gives manufacturers around the world greater local access to the support and expertise they need, ultimately reducing product time to market."
