Euronet Worldwide Inc., an independent ATM deployer and electronic payments provider, has acknowledged press reports that Visa International will allow dynamic currency conversion on international ATM transactions globally, effective April 13, 2019.
Currently, Visa allows DCC only on POS transactions globally, and on intraregional ATM transactions in the European region.
The rule change, which Visa announced to its members in a Sept. 27 notification, will allow acquirers and ATM operators to offer DCC to all international ATM transactions on Visa-branded cards around the world.
DCC capability at ATMs means that cardholders traveling abroad can choose to make a cash withdrawal in either local currency or in the cardholder's home currency.
Currently, Euronet offers the DCC option for MasterCard-issued cards at most of its 41,000 ATMs, and facilitates the feature at more than 125,000 bank-operated ATMs around the world.
For Visa-issued cards, however, Euronet historically has been restricted to offering DCC ATM withdrawals only for cards issued and used in Europe.
Starting April 13, Euronet will be able to expand its ATM DCC offering to all Visa-issued cards on its existing ATM base in Europe and on new and existing ATMs around the world, the release said.
