TMD Security says that the CPK 6001 version 2016 for NCR ATMs protects against 'second generation' stereo skimming — without the need to take the ATM offline.

TMD Security, a provider of anti-skimming solutions for ATMs, has completed independent tests showing that the company's new Card Protection Kit version 2016 for NCR SelfServ ATMs effectively protects against "second generation" stereo skimming — without affecting ATM availability or cardholder convenience, the company announced in a press release.
In 2015, two ATMs in Ireland were found to have been fitted with a new "stereo" skimming technology. Testing and analysis determined that these "second generation" skimmers use multiple read heads, allowing criminals to extract card data more easily.
"Only two second generation stereo skimming incidents have been reported, but we took the threat very seriously," said TMD EMEA Sales Director Robin Hamstra. "CPK 6001 version 2016 is a major benefit to the ATM industry and that is why we have been shipping it as standard since December 2015."
The new anti-skimming technology is included in TMD Active Dip Kits — the only active jamming solution for DIP card readers, the release said.
Tom Moore, TMD managing director for North America, said that active dip technology is becoming increasingly important in the U.S., where skimming is on the rise.
"We have over 30 ADK deployers in the U.S. who chose ADK because they have peace-of-mind that their ATMs are protected and do not need to worry about the issues associated with detection based anti-skimming solutions such as failure to detect, managing false alerts and ATM down-time," he said. "Critical for them is the fact that with ADK, the ATM safely stays in service without any impact on ATM availability or cardholder convenience."
