EMV standards could slow compliance with 2010 SEPA deadline

ePaynews.com: Interoperability issues between EMV-based card terminals and bank acquirers' host systems are predicted as the SEPA deadline of 2010 nears. Under European Payment Council requirements for SEPA, Europe's banks are expected to EMV-enable all cards, POS terminals and ATMs by 2010, but standardization will likely represent a stumbling block. For this reason, the EPC is reported to be seeking greater influence in EMVCo, which is presently overseen by Visa, MasterCard and JCB.
