The ATM Industry Association has launched a new survey to gauge the progress of EMV migration in the U.S. The 2018 survey is the fourth in a series that began in 2014.
The 2018 ATMIA EMV Migration Survey is open to all ATM operators, owners and acquirers — independents and financial institutions alike. Participants need not be members of ATMIA, however they must meet the operator, owner, acquirer criteria. All participants will receive a full copy of the survey report, which is scheduled for release in March.
Though the primary objective of the survey is to assess progress on EMV migration in the ATM channel, ATMIA also seeks to better understand the challenges ATM operators face in a post-migration environment, as well as their strategies for the next few years.
Anecdotal reports from ATM operators — both financial institutions and independents — indicate that problems with card readers and the chip cards themselves are not uncommon.
Moreover, independents in particular have expressed frustration over what many see as a highly confusing EMV fraud resolution processes.
Looking ahead, the survey queries respondents about their plans for deployment of cardless solutions including NFC technology, as well as other ATM functionality.
The 20-question survey takes no more than a few minutes to complete. As previously mentioned, all participants — including nonmembers of ATMIA — will receive a full copy of the report upon its release.
The ATM Industry Association, founded in 1997, is a global non-profit trade association with over 10,500 members in 65 countries. The membership base covers the full range of this worldwide industry comprising over 2.2 million installed ATMs.
