EAST gauges interest in contactless ATM access

January 27, 2014

The European ATM Security Team has released the results of a website poll on attitudes toward contactless ATM access. The poll was conducted on the ATM research page of the EAST website from October to December 2013.

According to the EAST newsletter for January, 74 percent of respondents indicated that they would be happy to use contactless card or smartphone technology to make an ATM withdrawal; only slightly over one-quarter said they would not want to use the technology.

Of those who favored contactless withdrawal, 67 percent would prefer a PIN transaction, while 7 percent would prefer a PIN-free process.

The current EAST poll addresses "Social Engineering at ATMs." Both the current poll and results from past polls can be found on the EAST website's ATM research page.
