Discover joins major card brands with Quick Chip offering

Discover has followed the rollout of Visa, MasterCard and American Express Quick Chip programs with its release of Discover Quick Chip. The technology gives merchants the option to streamline the checkout process for all chip cards under the Discover, Diners Club International and Pulse Network brands.

Quick Chip reduces the time a chip card must remain in the card reader, making the checkout process more convenient for cardholders. The technology also reduces terminal certification requirements and is compatible with the technical standards of other payment networks.

"Discover is providing this new option in order to offer merchants and cardholders a streamlined checkout experience," said Ellie Smith, head of the chip center of excellence at Discover. "This initiative further expands and complements Discover’s wide range of existing programs that support chip deployment."

Visa and MasterCard announced their Quick Chip solutions on April 19 and 26, respectively. American Express rolled out its version just last week.
