June 16, 2008

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — Diebold Inc. received a Banker Technology Award for its advanced skimming-detection technology for ATMs.
According to a news release, Diebold's advanced ATM-skimming-detection, installed in the motorized card reader, comes standard on every new Diebold Opteva ATM.

The Banker Technology Awards, presented by The Banker magazine, recognize excellence and innovation in all areas of banking technology.

"Diebold is honored to receive such a prestigious award and to be recognized by the industry as a leader in ATM security," said Charles E. Ducey Jr., senior vice president of global development and services at Diebold. "The advanced skimming detection technology is designed to put our customers' minds at ease and provide reassurance that both the financial institution and its customers are protected."

According to the ATM Industry Association's Global ATM Security Alliance, .0016 percent of the world's ATM transactions are affected by crime or fraud, with skimming accounting for as much as 99 percent of all ATM attacks.

"In addition to the industry's growing fraud concern, the No. 1 concern among financial-institution customers is the theft of personal financial information — surpassing terrorism, job security and natural disasters," Ducey said."This award truly speaks to the high-quality processes and procedures Diebold has in place as a security leader in the financial self-service industry."
