Diebold reports strong 3Q

NORTH CANTON,Ohio- Diebold Inc. reported revenue earnings of $731 million, up 17 percent from $622 million during the third quarter of last year.
 
The company's net income increased 15 percent, up from $26 million, 37 cents per share, in 3Q 2005 to $30 million, 45 cents per share.
 
"We are encouraged by the progress made during the quarter, as many of our strategic actions are beginning to result in tangible benefits," said Thomas Swidarski, Diebold's president and chief executive.
 
Increases in security products and services and financial self-service contributed to the jump, the company said.
 
The security products and services division reported a 17 percent revenue increase, up from $168 million in 3Q '05 to $196 million. The Financial Self-Service segment reported a 14 percent revenue jump, up from $412 million in 3Q '05 to $470 million.
 
Other segments
 
The election-systems division, despite the ever-increasing number of negative reports about e-voting, saw revenue increases of 52 percent, up from $40 million to $61 million. 
 
Europe, the Middle East andAfricaexperienced a 23 percent revenue increase, up from $87 million in 3Q '05 to $107 million this year.
 

Asia Pacific and theAmericasreported 16 percent revenue increases. Asia Pacific went up from $62 million to $72 million; theAmericassaw an increase from $472 million to $551 million.
