Diebold Nixdorf intros the 'Essence' of future ATMs

April 6, 2017

Diebold Nixdorf has announced its new ATM concept, Essence. The device features "a sleek, modern design and user interface to advance the future of connected commerce," the company said in a press release.

The Essence concept features software-driven multitouch functionalities — swipe, scroll and smart zoom — that consumers have become accustomed to using on smartphones and tablets.

Other features include:

  • clean design — seamless profile, antimicrobial glass touch screen display and enhanced user interface;
  • increased security — encrypted touch screen PIN entry and NFC authentication option; an EMV chip reader replaces the traditional mag-stripe card reader;
  • added flexibility — an array of customizable colors and designs, as well as electronic receipt capabilities; and
  • a miniaturized footprint — removal of mag-stripe reader, receipt printer and PIN pad results in a compact, through-the-wall design that takes up minimal space in high-traffic environments.

"Our latest concept delivers the future of consumer transactions by reimagining what the self-service channel looks like," Richard Harris, Diebold Nixdorf vice president of design and new technology incubation, said in the release.
