Diebold announces new cash management ATM

February 21, 2002

NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- Diebold today announced a cash management ATM designed for the off-premise market which allows retailers to recycle in-store cash.

The company said in a statement that the new technology will accelerate the growth of off-premises cash dispenser installations by greatly reducing or eliminating cash replenishment costs and improving the cash handling security.

The ATM, which will be available early in 1999, will be unveiled at the Bank Administration Institute's Retail Delivery '98 conference, December 1 - December 3 in Las Vegas.

"Most ATMs today are being installed at off-premise locations like convenience stores, malls, gas stations and other retail locations,"
according to Alben W. Warf, senior vice president, electronic systems development and manufacturing at Diebold.

"The major remaining barrier to more widespread installation is the cost of having someone travel to the dispensers and replenish them with cash. This first-of-its kind, cash management ATM lets an employee at the local establishment replenish the unit by simply feeding cash into an acceptor on the dispenser. By making it more economical to replenish cash dispensers, this new unit opens the door to a wealth of profitable, new cash dispenser deployments."

The cash management ATM, with one of the smallest footprints in the industry, is the perfect choice for ATM deployers and retailers who want to provide their customers with access to a cash dispenser but may not have enough transactions per month to justify the operating cost of a traditional ATM.

Merchants are able to replenish the unit locally, without having to open the chest, and easily recycle excess cash through the ATM. This reduces exposure to loss or theft from the cash drawer and when making cash night drops. In addition, a strong audit trail is provided to protect the merchant's cash. Multiple receipts can be printed, providing one for the operator to balance out their cash drawer and another to include with the location's cash report.
