Crook + keyboard - camera = ATM cash heist

A Brazilian man has been arrested on charges that he stole $41,000 from an ATM by changing out the camera with a keyboard, which he used to hack into the machine.

According to Krebs on Security, the report came from comes from the São Paulo daily newspaper, O Estado de S. Paulo. The newspaper account said that the thief managed to remove the security camera and insert another USB device in the slot (whether this was the keyboard connection or another device wasn’t clear, Krebs said).

The man then rebooted the machine and set about emptying it of cash. He was observed by bank security staff and apprehended by the police before he could finish, however. Authorities suspect the man was working in concert with another crook who was instructing him over a mobile phone, but the suspect refused to name an accomplice.
