The problem of ATM attacks using gas is growing fast in the U.K., Europe and other parts of the world. Blowing the door off an ATM is quick, relatively easy and potentially lucrative for the criminal.
A skilled attacker can open a safe within 20 seconds, according to the Safe & Vault Company Ltd., a U.K. firm. To counter this threat, the company introduced its latest response to ATM gas attacks last week at European ATMs 2014.
In a news release, the company said that Gas Attack Protection X offers the fastest detection and prevention solution available to the ATM industry today. The technology covers the key risks from gas attacks: It controls explosions within seconds; manages fire risk; and alerts police.
GP-X represents a collaboration of experts in the safe, fire, electronics and security industry. This team conducted its own controlled gas explosion testing sessions in order to better understand the nature of gas attacks, and used this information to develop a reliable solution, the release said.
