Collis test tools for EMV cards are qualified by MasterCard

October 21, 2009

Netherlands-based Collis says MasterCard Worldwide has qualified the Collis Brand Test Tool and Collis Card Simulator as validation tools for terminal integration testing certification.

Additionally, the network integration validation module of the Collis Card Simulator has been qualified by MasterCard for the formal NIV certification process.

The Test Tool and Card Simulator are used to test terminal behavior according to the payment scheme rules, without the need for physical test cards. The tools can simulate any EMV card and be used with MasterCard card applications, such as M/Chip and PayPass.

The tools can simulate errors to test the system's response. The tools can be used with new ATMs equipped with anti-skimming mechanisms, Collis says.

The Collis Card Simulator includes all card images needed for TIP testing including subset 1, interoperability subset and Maestro UK subset. To correctly process EMV-based transactions, acquirers need to upgrade their network interfaces to support chip data. NIV testing checks that authorization and clearing interfaces are in accordance with the current MasterCard authorization and clearing requirements.

Christian Delporte, head of chip engineering for MasterCard, says Collis is a recognized player in the chip testing market:
This qualification broadens the offer of test tools available to MasterCard acquirers for use in the terminal integration process (TIP) and in the network interface validation. We are confident that MasterCard acquirers will directly benefit from these tool qualifications. MasterCard will inform its customers about qualified test tools via the MasterCard OnLine Web site.
