December 3, 2006
MSN.com: Citigroup has announced plans to launch a network of biometric ATMs in India's low-income areas. The ATMs will be designed to recognize account holders' thumbprints, eliminating the need for a PIN, and will have color-coded screen instructions and voice-overs to help guide users through transactions. Citigroup has already deployed two terminals. The bank plans to expand the network to between 25 and35 machines within 18 months.
