Chase's website goes down; ATMs not affected, bank official says

September 13, 2010

The website of Chase Bank has been down since last night due to an undisclosed technical problem the company is attempting to resolve, said Tom Kelly, a Chase spokesperson.

Cardholders who attempt to log on to www.chase.com will see this message:”Our website is temporarily unavailable. We’re working quickly to restore access. Please log on later.”

The website’s failure, however, has not affected Chase’s extensive ATM network, the nation’s second largest behind Bank of America‘s, Kelly said.

Chase, which is based in New York City, owned 15,654 ATMs nationwide at the end of the second quarter. Kelly said the technical problem is not similar to what recently occurred at Barclays Bank in London, when a technical issue temporarily shut down an undisclosed number of the bank’s ATMs.

Kelly urged cardholders to either bank by phone or conduct their business at a branch. Chase Bank is a subsidiary of JPMorgan Chase & Co.
