BT, Cashbox offer Wi-Fi access at ATMs
June 22, 2009
IT ProPortal:BT and Cashbox have announced that they will be turning 2,500 ATMs, mainly located in restaurants, pubs or airports, into paid-for Wi-Fi hotspots. The deal will cover 10 Cashbox ATMs in a trial before being rolled out to all of Cashbox' machines over a five-year contract. Nearly 5 million BT broadband customers with inclusive Wi-Fi minutes, together with the 1 million or so iPhone users, will be able to roam around these hot spots for free. BT is thought to be quietly building a data network that could potentially match a mobile-phone infrastructure at a much, much lower cost.
