Boston-based South Shore Bank opened its new Hingham financial center in December 2013 with Personal Teller Machines — or PTMs, as South Shore calls them. The technology has been so well received by customers that the $1 billion bank now plans to offer virtual tellers at its Weymouth financial center, the busiest of the FI's 14 branches.
After deciding that the Hingham location should be a next-generation branch with extended hours and a personalized, contemporary environment, South Shore consulted Boca Raton, Fla.-based security solutions provider Red Hawk Fire & Security, a news release from the company said.
“We had been a Red Hawk customer for many years and knew we could count on them to see us through this project,” South Shore CIO and EVP Pam O’Leary said. “They brought NCR to the table and the result has been outstanding. We have been able to deliver an innovative banking experience that is more convenient for our customers while improving the efficiency of our overall operations.”
NCR APTRA Interactive Teller connects South Shore customers at the Hingham branch with live video tellers, allowing the FI to offer extended hours — 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
NCR interactive video software makes it possible for customers to conduct up to 95 percent of typical teller window transactions with assistance from a live remote teller who is able to take control of the device while engaging with the customer over two-way video.
“The NCR technology in place at South Shore Bank’s Hingham center is an example of how NCR is helping financial institutions better connect with their customers to grow their relationships in the community,” said Jed Taylor, GM of interactive services at NCR Corp.
The next-gen banking center in Weymouth is scheduled to open in September.
