Spanish FI Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria is working on two continents to renew its self-service channel. In the U.S., BBVA Compass Bancshares Inc., is piloting a drive-thru concept that lets customers consult with bank staff by video; In Spain, BBVA is installing specially designed multi-function ATMs. Wincor Nixdorf worked with BBVA on the design and development of both projects.
By the end of 2013, approximately 100 "ABIL" multi-function ATMs had been installed in Spain. The machines offer a number of new functions compared with traditional ATMs.
These include:
In addition, the system features a large touchscreen and an intuitive user interface. The bank intends to gradually establish this new self-service terminal as its standard ATM.
The new drive-thru system at BBVA Compass allows the bank to provide many of the services offered inside the branch via self-service in real time. When customers have questions, a member of the bank staff is available for a videoconference, providing personal consultation via the self-service channel.
A pilot installation of the drive-thru video ATM is now operating in Houston; others are due to follow across the country in coming months.
As a strategic BBVA partner, Wincor is providing both hardware and software for the BBVA Compass project.
Javier Lopez Bartolomé, Wincor Nixdorf SVP for the Americas and Iberia, sees BBVA as an innovation leader and a pioneer in the use of new technologies.
"With the introduction of these new solutions, BBVA is once again ideally implementing its corporate philosophy, which relies on the three pillars of leadership, innovation, and performance by people for people," he said.
