The security of ATMs and their users remains one of the more frustrating tasks faced by Russian FIs. In 2010, their losses amounted to around 1.4 trillion rubles ($47.8 billion); in 2011 they increased a further 50 percent.
Russia's Star Bank recently announced that to combat fraud, it has deployed a new video surveillance solution developed by banking technology provider BS/2. ATMeye.iQ is a new-generation software solution that provides real-time video surveillance of suspicious activity at ATMs, enabling an immediate response when unauthorized activity is detected. The solution provides for centralized hardware management and the communication and filing of analytical and statistical data in the form of reports.
"StarBank has been using BS/2's services for many years, and, thanks to [this collaboration], we have achieved impressive results," said StarBank representative, Albert Ivanov. "Recently, we have deployed into our ATM network an updated version of ATMeye.iQ. Not only has it strengthened the protection of our devices and reduced the risk of fraud and vandalism, but it has also allowed us to cut our security expenses, at the same time retaining the bank's reputation of a reliable partner and service provider."
ATMeye.iQ can be installed on self-service devices from any manufacturer and allows an unlimited number of user connections to the system. The solution features a multivendor platform, multiple-language interface, flexibility and multifunctionality. It's also compatible with database management systems such as Oracle and PostgreSQL, and can be integrated with ProView, a software for technical monitoring from Wincor Nixdorf.
