Barely more than a week away from the start of 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, Banco do Brasil Americas and payment processor i2c Inc. have launched a multi-currency prepaid MasterCard.
According to a news release from Silicon Valley-based i2c press release, the general purpose reloadable card is “ideally suited to meet the financial needs of consumers that travel internationally.”
Consumers can load funds to the BBA prepaid card via online account transfer, and then access their cash surcharge-free at Banco do Brasil Americas-branded ATMs.
Self-service cardholder support is available in English and Portuguese and live agent service is available in English, Portuguese and Spanish, the release said.
The i2c processing platform allows cardholders to transfer funds into other currencies and store them in purses, or sub-accounts, directly linked to the card, locking in favorable exchange rates. The card supports U.S., Canadian and Australian dollars, euros, and British pounds sterling.
Consumers can sign up for a card at the BB Americas website or at a BBA branch location. Given the difficulty travelers generally experience finding an internationally networked ATM in Brazil, the card might serve as a convenient alternative for tourists who’d rather not have to carry enough cash to cover their entire stay.
