BAI RD: Wincor banking suite enhances in-branch customer experience with mobile, check processing tech
November 20, 2008
ORLANDO, Fla. — At the BAI Retail Delivery Conference & Expo, Wincor Nixdorf presented its ProClassic/Enterprise Retail Banking Solution Suite, which has new built-in functions such as mobile banking, end-to-end check-image processing and assisted cash services.
"We have developed the software further with specific regard to requirements in the U.S. market," said Thomas Certa, director of software marketing at Wincor Nixdorf AG. "The individual modules implement branch and self-service processes securely and efficiently."
According to a news release, the ProClassic/Enterprise Retail Banking Solution Suite is divided into the four areas: channel delivery, security, management and optimization, and banking-business enabling. The suite's individual software modules and solution components can be assigned to one of those four areas. During the expo, Wincor Nixdorf showed how PC/E permits intelligent linking of mobile terminal devices, such as cell phones and ATMs, enables banks to offer new services (e.g. money orders). For instance, parents can authorize an ATM to dispense cash to their children, if the latter have their mobile phone with them.
Another scenario: Cash is paid out to housekeeping personnel using a mobile device because the personnel do not have checking accounts.
The solution allows mobile P2P payment by the account holder initiating a payment to the recipient's mobile phone number through any desired channel (e.g. Internet banking from home) and then sending a code to the recipient's cell phone. In addition, a PC/E mobile server generates a second code and also sends it to the cell phone. Once the two codes have been entered, the ATM dispenses the cash.
A further application demonstrates how check and cash deposits and withdrawals at the counter are automated to reduce waiting times and personnel costs. The model, called "Assisted Cash Services," comprises special self-service hardware based on the cash check deposit module and an extension of the PC/E component teller operations. Using Assisted Cash Services, several counters can be fitted with kiosk systems, which are then (like with self check-in systems at airports) monitored by one or a few employees. Those employees have an insight into all the processes of the systems and can assist customers if required. Employees also can access CRM data interactively and selectively offer products and services to customers.
Other solutions included in the suite include channel delivery to enable network-centric control of self-service devices from different vendors, branch peripherals and mobile terminal devices, as well as allowing for the integration of each of them with a bank's background systems.
Securing networks from invasion and managing and optimizing branches also were highlights — Wincor showed a solution for forecasting and optimizing the cash cycle at all of a bank's cash points. That solution covers ATMs, automated teller safes, vaults, and cash-deposit and cash-recycling systems.
Software components for direct marketing at ATMs, integration in CRM concepts and advertising over all channels also were highlights. In addition, non-bank information and services or value-added services, such as ticketing, can be integrated.
Optimal cash management
ProClassic Enterprise Cash Management software offers rational organization of end-to end cash management processes. The Retail Banking Solution Suite enables FIs to reduce their cash inventories, optimize replenishment schedules and cut logistics costs and interest expense.
The software solves complex optimization problems, taking a broad array of impact variables into account — optimization of cash inventories in branch safes, for example. ProCash Analyzer calculates optimal cash replenishment and pick-up cycles for cash recycling systems. Some of the factors included in PC/A calculations are: optimal inventory levels; replenishment volumes based on average transaction size; order proposals for cash replenishment; insurance regulations governing individual inventory levels; cost optimization for cash transport and replenishment processes; and cash levels geared to public holidays and special local events, when banks expect high transaction volumes.
The solution guarantees end-to-end optimization for all cash points: ATMs, conventional teller terminals, recycling systems and branch safes.
