ATM use rises in Pakistan

The ATM channel is experiencing notable growth in Pakistan. The country's central bank today said that in the last quarter of the 2011 fiscal year, the value and volume of ATM transactions rose by 5.9 percent and 7.4 percent respectively.

According to The News, the number of ATMs also increased. Banks added 197 new machines to raise the country's total to 5,745. The average amount of an ATM transaction is Rs9,693 ($102).

The number of plastic cards in circulation also increased during the quarter, recording an uptick of 8.3 percent. A total of nearly 18 million cards is in circulation in the country.
