Columbus Dispatch: The number of bank-branch offices has grown in the past five years, driven by increases in supermarkets, department stores and other retail locations, the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. and the Office of Thrift Supervision reported last week. Retail banking offices grew 11.6 percent to 79,829 in June 2006, up from 71,547 in June 2001, the agencies say.
