September 8, 2014

Mobile money network MTN Uganda has partnered with Centenary Bank Uganda to allow MTN customers to cash out at all Centenary bank ATMs across the country.

Customers will be able to get cash from 147 ATMs operated by Centenary in Uganda, including machines at the bank's 62 branches, according to a press release from MTN.

The ATM cash out service involves a simple, two-part process.

On the mobile phone:

  • dial *165#;
  • select "financial services, ATM cash out";
  • select "ATM withdrawals";
  • select 1 to generate a four-digit temporary identification number, received as an SMS; and
  • enter mobile money PIN.

At the ATM:

  • select mobile money;
  • select "MTN Mobile Money";
  • enter phone number;
  • enter amount of withdrawal; and
  • enter TIN.

The ATM dispenses cash and a transaction receipt.

The release included a statement from MTN Acting Chief Marketing Officer Kenneth Kiddu:

MTN is proud of the Mobile Money product because it has ably contributed to the country's financial sector by improving on customers' micro savings culture, money transfer activities, withdrawals and bill payments to mention but a few.

We are partnering with banks like Centenary Bank so that our customers can seamlessly withdraw cash off their Mobile Money accounts using ATMs. The service is available to all MTN as well as Centenary Bank customers who are registered on Mobile Money.
