NCR Corp. has announced its collaboration with Australia's ANZ bank to introduce what the company described as the world's first EMV-secure and NFC-enabled "tap and PIN" solution for contactless ATM transactions.
"The growing dependence on technology means customers want simpler and faster ways to bank, but they also want to know their money is secure," ANZ Australia CEO Philip Chronican said in the release. "This 'tap and PIN' technology will go a long way in the fight against card skimmers — and to make banking safer and easier for customers."
The release said that the solution will not only speed up the ATM transaction, but also will scale to integrate future functionalities, such as user authentication and ATM transaction pre-staging via mobile device. For instance, ANZ customers might be able to pre-program the amount of a cash withdrawal and the banknote denominations to be dispensed.
"NCR is working closely with financial institutions to understand the challenges they face and introduce innovative technology to address them," said Andrew Brown, NCR region director for the financial industry. "This first-ever EMV-encrypted ATM technology reiterates our commitment. We are privileged to be associated with ANZ to assist them to integrate NFC technology for ATM transactions as it offers customers more convenience, faster transactions and secure transaction against card skimming."
