Access One ATM, Genmega venture into charitable giving

The two companies have partnered to offer ATM cardholders the opportunity to make charitable donations at cash machines.

Access One ATM, a Brooklyn, New York-based service provider, has partnered with ATM manufacturer Genmega to offer cardholders the opportunity to make charitable donations through Charity ATM.

The Charity ATM program operates completely free of charge on Genmega ATMs, according to a press release. The feature can be added with a simple software upgrade with no modifications required to the ATM hardware, the companies said.

"We are happy to be helping promote charitable donations at ATMs," said Access One ATM CEO George Sarantopoulos. "Charity ATM is all about providing consumers with convenient access to make donations to charity, to benefit both community and help encourage commerce."

Consumer charitable donations have increased significantly in recent years and currently represent more than 72 percent of all monies contributed to charitable organizations at approximately $229 billion annually, the companies said.

And upward trend in donations is likely to continue — the release pointed to a 2014 Nielsen survey showing that 69 percent of millennials want businesses to make it easier for them to get involved in social issues.

"We are delighted Access One ATM approached Genmega to help with the Charity ATM project," said Genmega Vice President of Sales, Wes Dunn. "Our company is always looking for opportunities to add functionality to our existing machines. Charity ATM is a terrific way for ATM operators to help the community while capitalizing on the 2.5-square-foot space the ATM occupies to maximize revenue opportunities."
