Since 2 April 2026, public and private entities in Spain have been required to accept MiDNI as a valid means of in-person identification, under the same terms as the physical identity document.

But in a bank branch, scanning a QR code is only the first step.

The real challenge is integrating this identification process with existing readers, branch applications and banking systems, so that data reaches customer onboarding processes and document management systems without having to be entered manually again.

Other challenges include compatibility across devices from different manufacturers, personal data management, and the need for alternatives when scanning fails or the QR code expires.

The key is not simply to scan the QR code, but to ensure that the entire process works in an integrated, secure and consistent way with the bank’s existing systems.

At Serquo, we help connect financial devices to the systems that manage them, making it easier to integrate new technologies into existing infrastructures.
