ATM Marketplace 'Must-read' features for March

Admittedly, the pun deserves an eye-roll. However our top-ranking features for the past month — four of which concern emerging ATM and mobile technologies — definitely deserve a read.

March was a month of goodbyes: goodbye to the winter that really kind of wasn't for much of the United States; goodbye to that hour of sleep lost in the changeover to daylight saving time; goodbye to a fridge-load of hardboiled Easter eggs; goodbye to the Sweet Sixteen, whittled down to the Final Four.

And hello to mobile, the hottest new trend in the ATM industry. At ATM Marketplace, four of the five top headlines for the month of March directly addressed mobile technologies — especially as they relate to ATM transactions.

The one high-ranking article ("ATMIA 2016: The evolving future of the ATM") without a reference to mobile in the headline still featured it prominently in the story itself.

No. 3 — Payments go 'Hands Free' with Google app

Even as Google continues to grow the user base for its Android Pay mobile wallet, the company is looking ahead to even newer alternatives — including hands-free payments.

Google Hands Free combines a standalone app with Bluetooth technology to allow consumers to make and confirm purchases at participating retailers.

No. 2 — The future is on the phone: Emphasizing the mobile banking customer experience

The future of digital banking isn’t online; it’s on the smartphone — and that’s where banks need to sink their digital resources right now.

While banking apps are still relatively novel and are seen as risky by some cautious consumers, the move to mobile banking is gaining momentum as people begin to understand the technology and security behind these apps.

No. 1 — PIN4 aims to turn US ATMs into cardless 'mobile money terminals'

Pin4 is a payment and authorization network that provides real-time cardless cash withdrawals at any enabled ATM.

The company's patented process provides "instant cash in hand" to consumers and opens up a new payment channel for P2P businesses and other companies that are looking to enhance their promotion, loyalty and rebate programs.
