ATM & Mobile Executive Summit 2013: FTC regulations

Malini Mithal of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection discusses potential regulation in mobile payments.

The first ATM & Mobile Executive Summit kicked off in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 25 with the keynote, "Potential FTC Regulation in Mobile Payments," presented by Malini Mithal, assistant director for the Bureau of Consumer Protection at the FTC.

Mithal discussed findings of the 2013 FTC report, "Paper, Plastic, or Mobile," an examination of privacy issues in a mobile environment. Currently, the FTC is giving special scrutiny to payment card networks, hardware manufacturers and systems and applications developers in the mobile realm.

Attendees got an insider's look at where the FTC might seek to regulate mobile banking and payments, and how such regulation might affect business cases in this rapidly developing marketplace.
