ATM Marketplace: The 2017 Top 5
Court battles, crime and cardless transactions were all big stories last year in the ATM industry, and no doubt will continue to make headlines this year. But the biggest story by far was the release of the 2017 ATM trends report, an event that only rolls around every two years, but gives us a valuable glimpse into 2018 and beyond.

Court battles, crime and cardless transactions were all big stories last year in the ATM industry, and no doubt will continue to make headlines this year.
But the biggest story by far was the release of the 2017 ATM trends report, an event that only rolls around every two years and gives us a valuable glimpse into 2018 and beyond.

5. The Diebold-Hyosung ATM patent war: Win, lose or draw?
When this feature posted last January, the competitors had already been locked in a patent battle for 15 months. We asked then how much longer this 'knock-down, drag-out' could drag on? Now we know — at least 12 more months.
4. ATM fraud by the numbersIn an excerpted commentary from the 2017 ATM Future Trends report, Shirley Inscoe, senior analyst at Aite Group, shared results from the firm's ATM fraud study, which included an analysis of trends in fraud and recommendations for remediation measures.
3. 50 little-known facts about ATMs
Of course you know that Barclays installed the first ATM in 1967. But why did they locate it 10 miles away from the center of London in Enfield? The answer to this question was one of 50 factoids in a feature celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first commercial ATM.
2. Cardless ATM access: 'Keep up or get left behind'
In March, Wells Fargo became the first U.S. bank to enable cardless account holder access across its ATM fleet. NCR's Colin Gordon urged others to follow. Many did, building momentum through 2017 and into 2018.
