Worldpay, the global e-commerce platform of FIS, is partnering with JCB, a Japan credit card issuer and a global payment network. The agreement will enable businesses selling online to Japan that process payments through Worldpay to accept JCB cards, according to a press release.
FIS, a Jacksonville, Florida-based financial technology firm, acquired WorldPay in July 2019
The e-commerce market in Japan is growing rapidly. Worth an estimated 17.9 trillion yen ($162.8 billion) in 2018, the market is expected to grow 28% by 2022 as retailers scale up their online offerings in Japan. Merchants operating in Japan can broaden their payments portfolio to give consumers the ability to pay in their preferred way.
Worldpay has been supporting JCB's merchant acquiring business internationally since the 1990s.
"Japan's e-commerce market is set to be a powerhouse of growth over the next few years and being able to offer businesses a broad portfolio of card brands is key to merchant success in the region," Mark Heimbouch, president of Worldpay merchant solutions, said in the release.
