Wincor's automated postal center takes top honors at KioskCom.com

May 8, 2005

AUSTIN, Texas - The U.S. Postal Service won three first place awards at the KioskCom.com Interactive Kiosk Excellence Awards ceremony in Las Vegas last month for its Wincor Nixdorf Automated Postal Center.

The APC installed at 2,506 postal branches is built upon the Wincor Nixdorf ProCash 1500 ATM, with one cassette postage stamp dispensing, a "print from cassette" that prints on secure paper stock in the ATM safe, and an IBM-developed sidecar with a scale and printers.

The APC improves operational efficiencies by allowing customers to conduct routine postal transactions on a self-service platform.

The awards included Best Kiosk Deployment in a Retail Environment - large deployment (more than 100 kiosks); Best Kiosk Deployment for a Government Agency; Best New Kiosk Deployment - large deployment (more than 100 kiosks).

Janet Webster, manager of access management and the retail service network for the U.S. Postal Service, was named "Kiosk Industry Leader of the Year, Deployer" for her role driving the kiosk deployment.

The Kiosk Excellence Awards, established in 2002, are given to top interactive self-service applications. Since 2002, more than 20 companies have received awards from KioskCom.com. The awards are geared toward projects and companies that implement the projects, not toward the kiosk technology suppliers.
