PADERBORN, Germany -- Manufacturer Wincor Nixdorf is celebrating its first major contract with a European ISO, with the sale of 400 ATMs to Cardpoint plc.
A Cardpoint spokesman said the UK-based company is currently rolling out the machines, and may place future orders with Wincor.
The Cardpoint order is for both ProCash 1500 indoor and ProCash 2050 through-the-wall ATMs. Cardpoint will implement one of the ProCash 2050 ATMs at a railway station in the English Midlands. According to a news release, this will be one of the first independent deployments of through-the-wall ATMs in this type of location in the UK.
Wincor's ProCash 1500 has earned the company a significant amount of off-site business in the past two years. It is being deployed in 7-Eleven stores in Taiwan and in Target and Diamond Shamrock stores in the U.S. (See related stories Wincor Nixdorf to supply 1,200 ATMs to Valeroand Wincor Nixdorf scores with 7-Eleven in Taiwan)
Wincor machines are also being installed by Canadian ISO Threshold Electronics Limited in drug stores Shoppers Drug Mart and Pharmaprix in a deal that is being billed as Canada's single largest deployment by an independent. Referring to the Cardpoint deal, Paul Nicholls, Wincor's Business Development Director, Off-premise, said that the independent ATM market is one of Europe's fastest-growing market sectors, having grown from almost nothing in 1999 to an installed base of more than 7,000 machines in the UK today.
"With developments now occurring in other countries such as the Netherlands, we see that this market will continue to expand from the UK as more non-bank deployers are establishing themselves in other European countries," Nicholls said in the news release.
Wincor is also providing its dial up ProClassic software to Cardpoint. The software offers a choice of connectivity that includes dial NDC and Triton emulations. According to the release, this gives ISOs with existing installed bases the ability to introduce a second ATM supplier without the need for major operational changes in host systems.
Cardpoint recently was listed on the UK's Alternative Investment Market, which the ISO said allowed it to raise capital and double the number of ATMs it manages. (See related story Cardpoint plans to list on UK's Alternative Investment Market).
Earlier this month Cardpoint acquired rival independent Green Machine in a deal worth approximately $2 million U.S. (See related story UK independent Cashcard acquires Green Machine)
