AUSTIN, Texas -- Wincor Nixdorf will provide its ProCash 1500 cash dispensers to Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE: VLO), the owner of Diamond Shamrock Corner Stores, Stop N Go, Ultramar, Valero, Beacon and Total retail outlets, for installation in 1,200 company-owned gasoline and convenience stores.
Wincor Nixdorf worked with IBM, which sells and services Wincor Nixdorf ATMs in North America. With this contract and a deal to install 1,000 machines in Target stores for E*Trade Financial Access, Wincor Nixdorf and IBM have won two of the largest off-premise ATM bids in the U.S. in recent memory.
The ProCash 1500s being deployed for Valero include a color 10.4-inch LCD screen, a PC running Windows NT, a bill acceptor, audio capability and an EPP (Encrypted PIN Pad) to comply with requirements for Triple-DES encryption.
Scott Hackl, president of Wincor Nixdorf's U.S. Banking Division, said, "The ProCash 1500's open design allows it to easily integrate with a variety of financial and other systems, thus providing a cost-effective platform for delivering advanced ATM functionality."
Valero plans to use the ATMs to provide customers with electronic coupons and short, full-motion video programs about the store's promotions. The machines are also configured with a cash acceptor that will allow customers to purchase tickets and phone cards. In addition, they have the capability to recharge and activate cell-phone programs, a function that is attracting increased interest among off-premise deployers. (See related story Ring a ding ding)
As part of the agreement, Wincor AutoTell, a majority-owned subsidiary of Wincor Nixdorf, will provide software applications that allow monitoring and remote fix capability, as well as other functions.
