According to Deseret News, Wells Fargo yesterday announced the installation of new envelope-free ATMs across Utah.
Following a successful pilot in Colorado, Wells Fargo installed 139 new ATMs across Utah. Envelope-free ATMs in other states have already processed more than 250 million checks, according to a company press release.
“These envelope-free ATMs will provide our customers with added convenience,” said Greg Winegardner, regional president for Wells Fargo in Utah.
Customers will no longer need to write on an envelope or key-in a deposit amount. Once cash and/or checks are inserted into the ATM (up to 30 checks or bills at a time), the machine converts the paper checks into digital images, which appear on the ATM screen and on the receipt. The ATM also sorts and counts the cash and verifies the amount.
Customers can also choose to have their receipt emailed to themselves. Cash deposits are available for immediate use, while check deposits made on weekdays by 9 p.m. are considered received that business day.
“Our ATMs now do all the work — they do the math, simplify the process and save time and paper,” Winegardner said.
