Walmart to embrace smartcard payments

Walmart is planning to make its American payment terminals compliant with smartcard-based technology.

According to Tech World, the plans were announced this week, as reported on by StoreFront Backtalk,which quoted Walmart director of payment services Jamie Henry as saying Walmart was working on making all payment terminals in its American stores chip-and-PIN capable.

Walmart is the world's largest retailer, and this development could cause card issuers, processors and other merchants to embrace the technology.
