Visa vacates Global Payments

April 1, 2012

According to a news itemposted by wsj.com at 7:39 p.m. EST on Sunday, April 1, Visa has removed Global Payments from its list of companies considered to be "compliant service provicers."

According to the WSJ report, delisting is a fairly rare event in the industry. In order to be considered for relisting, Global Payments must submit new validation that it is compliant with industry security standards.

Amy Corn, a spokeswoman for Global Payments, said she expected that the company would be cleared for relisting. "We expect to be reinstated once we have been issued a new report of compliance," she said. However, she did not say when this was likely to occur.

Despite the delisting, Global Payments can continue to process Visa transactions. The move simply serves to advise merchants that Visa cannot say with certainty that transactions processed by Global Payments will be optimally secure.

At the time of the WSJ report, MasterCard had not delisted Global Payments. The card company said in a statement that "MasterCard will consider appropriate actions."
