Venmo rolls out rainbow debit card

February 22, 2019

Venmo is rolling out a limited edition rainbow card, the latest addition to six colorful cards introduced last year.

In a blog post, the company cited "tremendous adoption" of its co-branded Mastercard, which allows users to pick a card color that suits their personality and style, and spend their Venmo balance wherever Mastercard is accepted.

Venmo card users have the ability to:

  • Use their balance to pay for things in the real world. According to Venmo data, the top two purchase categories are supermarkets and restaurants.
  • Easily split costs of what they’re buying with friends. Once a purchase is made, the cardholder can split that purchase in the app.
  • Seamlessly add and split tips by selecting a purchase or Venmo card charge from their activity page, and adding the desired tip directly in the Venmo app. Venmo automatically calculates suggested tip amounts to make tipping easier.
  • Use an "Add Money" feature to replenish a Venmo balance, or turn on reloads to automatically to cover purchases from a linked bank account.
  • Withdraw cash fee-free at one or more than 32,000 MoneyPass ATMs across the U.S.

The limited edition rainbow card rolls out to preferred Venmo cardholders today and will be widely available to all Venmo users on March 4, via the Venmo app.
