Vcom lottery sales may be ticket for 7-Eleven

DALLAS -- Convenience store chain 7-Eleven Inc has added lottery ticket sales to its Vcom kiosks at 1,000 stores in 14 states, including Texas, and the District of Columbia.

According to a report in the Austin (Texas) Business Journal, 7-Eleven's partner is Gtech Corp.Lottery is the latest in a lengthening list of services offered via the Vcom.

7-Eleven [NYSE: SE] sees the online lottery sales as enhancing customer service and increasing the company's share of the U.S. lottery business, worth $36 billion annually. The company sells more than 700 million lottery tickets each year, according to the Business Journal.

West Greenwich, R.I.-based Gtech has contracts to provide software, networks and professional services for 25 U.S. lotteries, including in Texas. GTech Holdings Corp. [NYSE: GTK] is the holding company for GTech Corp.

In May 2002, GTech announced it was consolidating three software hubs into a single technology center in Austin, where it employs about 450 people.
