As it enters the North Carolina market, U.S. Bank has been working with Cardtronics to place its brand on ATMs located inside CVS Pharmacy stores across the greater Charlotte area.
The ATM branding agreement is the first between U.S. Bank, the nation's fifth-largest bank by asset size, and the ATM operator, according to a press release.
"Cardtronics' expertise in terminal management coupled with access to a blue-chip retailer in CVS is exactly what we were looking for to scale up quickly to better serve our current and future customers in and around Charlotte," Ross Carey, U.S. Bank EVP, new and national markets, said in the release.
Cardtronics installed the first U.S. Bank branded ATMs earlier this month. As of now, all 78 ATMs are branded and operational, the firm said.
In October, U.S. Bank opened its first branch at 201 S. Tryon in the Uptown area of Charlotte. The branded ATM sites complement the bank's digital footprint.
"Providing convenient, fee-free access to cash is critical for any financial institution, but perhaps even more so for a new market entrant," Brian Bailey, Cardtronics EVP and managing director, North America, said in the release.
U.S. Bank plans to open approximately 10 branch locations in Charlotte by the end of 2020.
Earlier this week, reports emerged that the bank is planning to cut thousands of branch workers as it transitions into a digital world, but will keep its branches.
