U.S. Bank has announced the introduction of an app for Android that lets customers of its retail partners apply for a store credit card while they are shopping and, assuming approval, use it to pay for purchases immediately.
The U.S. Bank Android app is similar to an iPhone app the Bank released in partnership with REI last October (an Ace Hardware app was added this April). REI is the first U.S. Bank cobranded partner to launch the new app for Android.
The Android "REI Visa App," can be downloaded free from REI's website or from Google Play. The app allows consumers to apply for a U.S. Bank/REI cobranded credit card and access a secure, virtual card on their smart phone.
Like the iPhone version, the Android app provides access to account management tools such as account balance, recent transactions and account payment. It also features a link to REI's web store.
"The U.S. Bank Card App for iPhone and now Android enables our partners to offer convenience and immediate purchasing power to more customers, regardless of their mobile devices," said John Owens, senior vice president of U.S. Bank Retail Payment Solutions. "U.S. Bank is continually looking for mobile opportunities to enhance the relationship with our partners and the experience our customers have interacting with us."
U.S. Bank will continue to add cobranded partners to the U.S. Bank Card App for Android and iPhone through the year.
