Umpqua Bank signs with Fiserv for Mobile Money banking app

August 23, 2009

Umpqua Bank, an $8.8 billion community bank based in Roseburg, Ore., and a subsidiary of Umpqua Holdings Corp., has signed with Fiserv for Mobile Money, which will allow Umpqua customers to bank via their mobile devices.

According to a news release from Fiserv, Mobile Money is already integrated into the online banking and bill-payment services used by Umpqua. New mobile functions now available for the bank's customers include balance inquiries, transaction history, account transfers, bill payments, account alerts and an ATM and branch locater.

Mobile Money is a secure application that uses data encryption, along with additional risk management safeguards, says Colin Eccles, executive vice president and chief information officer of Umpqua Bank:

Umpqua has a reputation for innovative customer interaction, and it is important that our mobile banking service provide a technologically sophisticated yet user-friendly experience. We anticipate a growing demand for reliable and secure mobile financial services and are confident that this is the right time to introduce mobile banking to our customers.

Mobile Money features so-called "triple play" technology — allowing users to bank with mobility via SMS, a mobile browser or an application downloaded to a BlackBerry smartphone or Apple iPhone. Mobile Money's RenderRight automatically customizes the user interface for the mobile device, allowing Umpqua to deliver a personalized mobile banking experience.
