NCR Corp. has announced that it will assist Cumberland Building Society in projects to upgrade its NCR ATMs to Windows 7 and implement a contactless card payment option for customers.
Additionally, the building society will continue to expand its network of NCR SelfServ 25 ATMs across the Cumbria region of North West England in order to improve availability and access to services for members in the lightly populated region, NCR said in a news release.
To enable the transition to contactless cards, Cumberland will use Authentic software from Alaric (a company recently purchased by NCR) to upgrade and certify its interface to the LINK networks for contactless transactions. Authentic will support additional data elements of the transaction that come with contactless.
The nature of contactless transactions means that most are processed offline. Cumberland has been using Alaric Fractals software to detect and prevent fraud on debit card transactions, and will continue to do so with the new contactless cards.
"Migrating to Windows 7 on NCR ATMs and using Authentic software to enable contactless payment cards will help us improve the customer experience," Gary Richardson, general manager for IT at Cumberland Building Society, said in the announcement. "Cumberland Building Society will maintain its position as an innovative organization by becoming one of the first financial institutions to roll out both technologies."
