LONDON -- Abbey National will use its existing ATM transaction processing platform, ON/2 from S2 Systems, to allow customers to top-up their Orange prepay mobile phones from the bank's ATM network.
The top-up service, the first of its kind in the UK, is currently being piloted by Abbey National staff and is expected to be rolled out to the bank's 3,000-plus ATMs in January. It will enable Abbey National customers to automatically pay for additional talk-time from their bank account.
George Ogden, market development director for S2 Systems, said in a news release that the top-up requests will be processed by ON/2 like any other ATM transaction. "Once a customer has entered their card and PIN number, and requested a phone top-up, ON/2 will check the mobile number is correct before sending a request to the network operator to authorize the transaction," he said.
The authorization requests will be sent to Orange via Euronet WorldWide's ATM Recharge solution, which provides the interface with the network operators' systems.
