Two companies team to offer volume testing of transaction processing systems

August 12, 2004

DEARBORN, Mich. - Paragon Data Services and Paragon Application Systems are working together to offer services that volume test transaction processing systems for their end clients. The services include the FASTress volume simulation tools from Paragon Application Systems and consulting and certification services of Paragon Data Services.

According to a news release, FASTress is a scaleable engine that can simulate up to thousands of transactions per second. The simulated transactions can come from off-the-shelf drivers for ATM and point-of-sale devices, as well as multiple ISO8583 interfaces.

"This provides a network or financial institution the flexibility to test volume scenarios on their own timeframe," said Peter Sturgess, vice president of Paragon Application Systems.

"Paragon Application Systems engaged with us for market research consulting services regarding their FASTress product," said Alan Falconer, senior vice president with Paragon Data Services. "We both recognized the value of offering stress-testing as a consulting service since this type of simulation is not a consistent need for many transaction processing systems. We combine our talents to offer our clients an effective option for testing and capacity planning when that need arises."

Alan Darbe, vice president for State Employees Federal Credit Union in Lansing, Mich., said Paragon provided the necessary tools, hardware and consulting services during its conversion to a new ATM transaction processing platform.

"We had successfully completed unit testing of the system and were looking for a way to run volume through the system from end-to-end. The results of the test demonstrated that our new system could process the volume of almost three times our current transaction arrival rate which was just the assurance we needed to go to production," Darbe said.
