PORTLAND, Ore. -- TRM Corporation(Nasdaq: TRMM), a provider of ATMs for retail locations, has received a grant from three Scottish government agencies, which will give the company an opportunity to create up to 130 new jobs and to grow the foundation of Strategic Software Solutions Ltd., its international software development company in Scotland.
TRM is the primary investor in Strategic Software Solutions through its subsidiary operation, San Francisco-based iATMglobal.net, although NCR Corporation also has significant ownership. Based in Alloa, Scotland, Strategic Software Solutions has created software for many of the world's existing ATM systems. According to TRM, SSS is developing software that is expected to allow deployers to offer a fuller, Internet-enabled menu of services, including ticketing, bill payment, prepaid phone cards, Internet banking and product purchases.
The new Internet software is expected to roll out in early 2001, initially on NCR's MCD ATMs, and will be made available to all ATM operators.
"Internet enabled ATMs are one of the most exciting new opportunities in the retail sector worldwide -- and we are investing for the long-term," said TRM CEO Fred Stockton. "Adding Internet access is the next revolution -- but it all depends on the right software. Our team of programmers in Scotland are the absolute specialists in this area, which gives them a unique advantage."
