PEABODY, Mass. -- ScanSoft, Inc. (NASDAQ: SSFT), will provide its RealSpeak text-to-speech software to Triton, a wholly owned operating company of Dover Corporation, to voice-enable Triton ATMs nationwide.
Triton will use ScanSoft's text-to-speech software so that its ATMs will meet proposed revisions to the ADA (Americans with Disabilities) that stipulate that an ATM must provide the capability to allow a visually impaired person to perform the same transactions as a sighted person. The software is "a critical component" of Triton's new 5000 Series ATMs, said Anita Nobles Arguelles, Triton's marketing director, in a news release. "(The software) provides the most natural-sounding voice, making it sound like someone is actually talking from within the machine," she said.
According to the release, ScanSoft's RealSpeak is used for a wide range of applications, including delivering e-mails for unified messaging systems, providing prompts for interactive voice response (IVR) applications and speech-enabling mobile, automotive, game and PC/multi-media applications.
RealSpeak offers a single, standardized application programming interface that supports the creation of speech-enabled applications in 20 languages: US and UK English, German, French, French Canadian, Dutch and Belgian Dutch, Castilian and Mexican Spanish, Italian, European and Brazilian Portuguese, Norwegian, Polish, Swedish, Danish, Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese, Korean and Japanese.
"We are pleased that through this collaboration with Triton we are able to make ATMs more accessible than ever before," said Wayne Crandall, senior vice president of sales and business development for ScanSoft.
