CALGARY, Alberta, and LONG BEACH, Miss. -- Triton Systems announced its entry into ATM processing in Canada through its wholly owned Canadian subsidiary, Calypso Canada Ltd.
Calypso Canada is closely allied with Sun Life Trust Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sun Life Assurance of Canada. Sun Life Trust is a directly connected financial institution member of the Interac Association, Canada's shared electronic payments network that is owned and operated by its members. Sun Life Trust is housing and running the data center operations on behalf of Calypso Canada. This affiliation puts Calypso Canada in a position to provide processing and all related services for the burgeoning off-premise ATM market in Canada.
"The combination of Sun Life Trust's reputation and competency as a directly connected financial institution member of Interac, coupled with Triton's extensive experience and knowledge of the off-premise retail ATM industry, positions Calypso Canada to significantly impact the Canadian market in a very positive manner," said Tom Gregoriades, vice president of deposit services for Sun Life Trust.
Calypso Canada is a full function processor with the ability to drive a variety of ATM and POS devices. Its open systems platform will provide the flexibility to deliver customized solutions and other value added services.
Calypso Canada will operate independently of Triton Systems. Brian Kett, director of Canadian operations for Triton Systems, stressed that Triton will continue its commitment to working with all EFT processors throughout North America. "We welcome certification of Triton's equipment by all Interac connectors in Canada, allowing Triton distributors and their customers the best possible access to processing services, as well as allowing processors equal access to Triton's innovative products as they become available," said Kett.
Triton views Calypso Canada as an important delivery channel for new features such as CDPD wireless communications and 3201 Datapac communication, which have been technically available from Triton for several months. ``We envision Calypso Canada as a means to accelerate the acceptance of these and other new developments into the market place,' said Kett. ``Calypso Canada and Sun Life Trust will provide value to Triton, its distributors and end users, as well as other processors, because Calypso will absorb much of the risk associated with bringing new features to the market."
Triton also recently acquired Calypso Systems, LLC ("Calypso US") from a group of private investors, according to Triton President Ernest Burdette. Calypso US will specialize in customized applications for niche segments within the United States. The company will focus on delivering value-added programs that are not generally available in the market, including phone cards, loyalty programs, advertising, ticket dispensing or proprietary cards. In many cases, these service offerings will be provided by Calypso US in conjunction with major processors.
