LONG BEACH, Miss. - Triton Systems and MagTek have partnered to demonstrate MagnePrint, a security tool designed to strengthen card-authentication at the ATM.
According to a news release, MagTek will use a Triton ATM to demonstrate how a low-cost magnetic stripe ATM/debit card solution, already in the hands of consumers, can be used as a powerful security token to uniquely authenticate a card during a typical ATM transaction.
The demonstration will be presented at MagTek's booth, No. 433, Nov. 15-17 at BAI's Retail Delivery Conference and Expo in Orlando, Fla.
Triton's booth number is 2253.
MagnePrint technology is based upon the principle that all magnetic stripes are intrinsically unique because of the random distribution of the magnetic particles. When viewed as an aggregate, the billions of magnetic particles create a unique "magnetic fingerprint" for the stripe, which is referred to as the "MagnePrint" of that specific mag-stripe. The MagnePrint is unique, secure and cannot be reproduced. All magnetic stripe cards have this property, and thus no additional cost is required to produce the card token.
"If accepted by the industry, MagnePrint would provide a near-perfect solution to certain types of ATM fraud, including card skimming and counterfeit cards," said Bill Jackson, Triton's vice president of product research and development.
MagnePrint provides an additional "second factor" of information that complements the existing PIN password and provides what is known as secure "two-factor authentication" or "strong authentication." It detects whether the card being used at the ATM is the authentic card issued by the financial institution or a fraudulent copy manufactured by criminals.
"Recent headlines have clearly publicized the risks consumers face," said Kiran Gandhi, MagTek's vice president of business development. "MagnePrint demonstrates that it is possible to provide proactive protection at a minimal cost and with minimal impact on existing communication infrastructures."
Triton intros new banking ATM at BAI
Triton's new full-function banking ATM, the FT7000, which was first introduced in September in Beijing, will be the featured product at the Triton booth.
"The launch of the FT7000 in the U.S. and internationally introduces a completely new line of terminals, designed to meet the requirements of any financial institution, large or small," said Triton president Brian Kett.
The FT7000 features an Intel Pentium IV processor and Microsoft Windows XP Pro. The software driving the FT7000 is Triton's Prism ATM application. Prism provides financial institutions with a simple HTML interface for customized screen content.
The FT7000 architecture is fully XFS compliant as well.
The FT7000 family can be configured at the factory or in the field to support an envelope depository with an optional envelope dispenser, a two-sided check scanner and other innovative financial service options.
All those options can be added at any time without expensive reconfiguration costs.
The FT7000 is slated for release mid-2006.
